The Royal Society of Musicians today formally launches a beautifully researched book by David Makie, detailing the proceedings of the Royal Society's 145th Anniversary Festival Dinner (1883) and other papers relating to Arthur Sullivan and the Society.
The RSM was founded in 1738 as the "Fund for Decay'd Musicians" (!) and its members have included Arne, Boyce, Carey, Festing, Pepusch, Sammartini, Stanley and most valuably, Handel who took part in the annual concerts for the Fund's benefit and bequeathed £1000 in his 1759 will.

It's a fun scene from a wonderful film but taking out the original soundtrack and adding this slightly pleasant song mutes the beauty of the original scene considerably. I don't think it works as it is here. I would encourage anyone who finds this clip intriguing to see the whole film and then compare this with the original. It's easily one of Godard's most accessible films. The french title is 'Bande à Part' but is available also as 'Band of Outsiders' for english-speaking audiences.

It so impressed Quentin Tarantino that he named his movie production company, "A Band Apart", after the film and referenced it in Pulp Fiction. And when I was asleep I had one of my favorite dreams. Sometimes I have it during the day, but then it's a day-dream. But I often have it in the night as well.

And in the dream nearly everyone on earth is dead, because they caught a virus. But it's not like a normal virus. It's like a computer virus. And people catch it because of the meaning of something an infected person says and the meaning of what they do with their faces when they say it, which means that people can also get it from watching an infected person on television, which means tht it spreads around the world really quickly.

And when people get the virus they just sit on the sofa and do nothing and they don't eat or drink and so they die. But sometimes I have different versions of the dream, like when you can see two versions of a film, the ordinary one and the director's cut, like Blade Runner. And in some versions of the dream the virus makes them crash their cars or walk into the sea and drown, or jump into rivers, and I think that this version is better because then there aren't bodies of dead people everywhere.
